As a non-flute player multi-instrumental teacher, I started using The Fab Flute Player at the start of 2024 in response to the lack of a clear pathway provided for absolute beginner flautists by the band methods. It has turned out to be a god-send for those beginner flute players who find tone production a challenge in the first few months. There are many many suggestions that have working beautifully and other ways to approach beginner flute that had not occurred to me as a non-flute specialist. Videos for every lesson are accessed via a QR code, or link and are delivered in the style of in-studio teacher, complete with expert flute knowledge, tips and reminders, always with enthused positivity. The videos are close up, with clear and concise demonstrations of every exercise and song in the book. I would not hesitate to recommend this book. My flute students and I are forever grateful for this long over-due book.

I have had the pleasure of implementing this progressive flute program in my teaching this year, and I am thoroughly impressed with the results. As a music teacher, I am always on the lookout for comprehensive and effective resources that can guide my students through their learning journey, and this program does exactly that.
The book is meticulously structured into levels, each one building on the previous to ensure a solid foundation. This progressive approach has been instrumental in helping my students grasp the fundamental techniques and concepts needed to excel in their flute studies. The clear and concise explanations, combined with engaging exercises, make learning both effective and enjoyable for students of all ages.
What sets this program apart is its attention to detail and its alignment with the school and preliminary syllabuses. By the time my students complete the levels outlined in the book, they are more than prepared to tackle the challenges of the preliminary syllabus with confidence and competence. The logical progression of skills and the inclusion of both technical exercises and musical pieces provide a well-rounded education that nurtures both technical proficiency and musicality.
The links to lesson videos for students to access during their practise at home is an invaluable resource for flute teachers and students alike.
I wholeheartedly recommend this progressive flute program to any educator seeking a comprehensive and effective method to guide their students towards musical excellence.

I have been using The Fab Flute Player to teach group beginner lessons for two years with great success. The program starts by teaching B, A and G using left hand alone before progressing to two hands. This provides such a stable foundation for little hands before they progress to the key of Bb major in preparation for joining the band. The lessons are set out clearly and concisely, with each lesson methodically building on the last and my students love making ‘flute rainbows’ on their flutes by collecting their coloured bands as they progress through the lessons. The videos are an invaluable resource for home practice as students are able to follow through each lesson as each exercise and song is played for them. This not only teaches students how to practise but helps to reduce mistakes being made and subsequently practised for a whole week. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who teaches beginners, whether privately or in group situations.

The new Fab Flute Player is a comprehensive guide for the beginner flutist. It has some innovative ideas, including the use of colour to help with note recognition. There are just the right amount of helpful tips and reminders for good posture in both the book and the accompanying videos. Students young and old will enjoy the short, well known and new tunes and interesting duets.
